Aquarama exhibition

Jay and I visited the Aquarama exhibition at Suntec City. This exhibition is really for the fish enthusiasts! We saw many people snapping away with their camera especially at the competition area at the prized fish.

At one of the booths, I saw for the first time this snow white arowana (above). It is amazing to see the baby arowanas that just came out of the eggs. Check out these websites (1) (2) to understand how baby arowanas (or fries) are harvested.

We talked to a man shared with us how he invested in arowanas by buying and breeding arowanas in the farms in order to reap profits. But it will take about 3-4 years before he can see the fruit of his investment.

It is interesting to see the ecosytem of aquatic plants and the fish. Under certain lighting, the aquatic plants will be able to produce oxygen for the fish and the plants will take in the carbon dioxide produce by the fish. We are also living in an ecosystem where we interact with one another and the environment.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

I just did a 12-hour course on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at Confucius Institute, Nanyang Technological University. It is a good introductory course to TCM. I always like to drink herbal soup made by my mother. I signed up with the aim of learning how to have better quality of life and health through proper diet.

Thank God that this course is conducted in English but Professor Hong Hai, Dean of Business School of NTU. I would be lost if it is conducted in Mandarin with those abstract terms.

I learnt many things like TCM is not to replace western medicine but to complement each other. TCM helps to improve health during the recovery stage from illness and is good as a preventive medication. I also start to have new interest in Chinese culture and history.
