23 Dec 05 - Kopitiam Christmas

This year my church has a musical drama called "Kopitiam Christmas". It has catchy theme song..haha..that will resound in your mind for a while.

It's great to celebrate Christmas with my friends. There's no greater joy than to be able to share this Gift with friends who has yet to know Him. To know the reason for this season.

Synopsis of the musical drama, 'Kopitiam Christmas':

In a Kopitiam (a hawker centre where local food and drinks are sold), there are different characters that have different stories to tell about their lives. Each longs for a different path or life and an incident draws them together.

The Lady Boss, Ah Nek had toothache for 3 months and did not want to see a dentist and her son, Alex spent what she has been saving. Alex was later caught stealing and to save his own face accused Ah Hock and Ah Nek of having an affair. He ran away from home and spent all his $. Ah Nek was so heart-broken by this false accusation. She later revealed that Ah Hock was actually the son of his husband's wife in China. This secret was kept between Ah Hock and Ah Nek as Ah Nek did not want to give Alex a bad impression about his father.

Tutti loved Alex but Alex has his heart set on another girl. Tutti was willing to be just friends with Alex.

Mr Lee ate Char Kuay Teow every morning and later revealed that her daughter was Grace, one of the stall owner.

Kai Poh and Grace, the chicken and fish ball stall owners respectively, often fought over who's the best in town. Grace grew up with her grandmother. Her mother left her when she was very young with another man. She longed for her own family.

Ah Nek was always longing for the return of Alex. Finally the prodigal son returned home, returned back to his family, this Kopitiam.

Ps Jeffrey shared about the Parable of the lost son from Luke 15:11-24. An inspiring and humorous sermon that touched many hearts I believe ;-)

Home usually touches the deep chord in the hearts of many. This is the place that means a lot of many of us whether it stirs up sweet memories, bitterness or pain.

In this sermon, the father refers to God and the son refers to you and I.

The gist of the sermon is as follows:

God is patient with our wrongs.

He is passionate about us.
The father ran to his lost son who returned. In those days, great men do not run but this father ran. This father represented God. God is passionate towards his son.

He accepts us as who we are.
